EGSL - European Game Science Lab

Scientific Coordinator: Leonardo Boncinelli

The European Game Science Lab integrates game theory and game design to advance education in game creation. By transforming how students and educators perceive the medium, the Lab highlights how games can promote diversity, address social issues, and support mental health. Recognizing that video games both reflect and shape cultural norms, the project seeks to refine development methods for a society in flux.

A primary objective is to establish a Teaching Network focused on cooperative, shared learning. Participants will conduct a comprehensive literature and methods review to identify best practices and inherent biases in design. These findings will inform the development of the Ludo-Narrative Game Design (LUNA) framework. Finally, the LUNA framework—enhanced by a GenAI-supported assistance system—will be implemented across analog, digital, and hybrid formats.

Designed as a permanent initiative, the Lab aims to elevate the standard of game design education. By utilizing the LUNA framework, the project will produce higher-caliber university graduates, ultimately fostering a lasting, positive impact on both the gaming industry and society at large.
