Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) are intensive blended programmes provided for under Key Action 1 of the Erasmus+ 2021–2027 Programme and developed by groups of higher education institutions using an innovative pedagogical approach.
BIPs involve a short period of in-person activity combined with online learning and cooperation activities to be carried out remotely in virtual mode. They may involve joint groups of students, teaching staff and administrative staff from at least three higher education institutions holding an ECHE from three different countries participating in the Erasmus+ Programme.
The virtual component is compulsory and aims to enable learners to work collectively and simultaneously on specific tasks integrated into the programme. These tasks contribute to the overall learning outcomes and make use of digital technologies, allowing the institutions involved to:
improve their ability to implement innovative teaching and learning methods;
reach a wider number of learners from all backgrounds, fields and study cycles, thereby also involving students from disciplinary areas with limited mobility opportunities.
A Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) may originate from an existing programme that is renewed in its delivery methods, or it may be entirely new, focused on specific topics and offering added value compared with the courses or training activities already available at the University. The innovative format of Blended Intensive Programmes is designed to support the development of transnational and transdisciplinary curricula, innovative teaching and learning methods, including online collaboration, and to foster research-based learning through a challenge-based approach that is strongly connected to the current context.
The Blended Intensive Programme “The valorization of origin products and their cultural heritage for territorial sustainable development” aims to critically analyse opportunities for promoting origin agri-food products and the bio-cultural heritage resources connected to them, including through tourism development and interactions with other sectors of the local economy.
The programme will provide tools for interpreting the dynamics and strategies involved in promoting local resources and the related support policies, identifying their strengths, weaknesses and areas for intervention, also in relation to their potential contribution to the activation of sustainable, people-centred local development processes.
The BIP also includes a study visit to an area in Tuscany, in order to observe ongoing valorisation dynamics through dialogue and discussion with local stakeholders.

The project “Ecological Economics: Theory and Practice for a Just and Sustainable Transition in Europe and Beyond” offers an ambitious educational and research pathway designed to respond to the urgency and complexity of today’s ecological and socio-economic challenges. In an era defined by interconnected crises — climate change, inequality, biodiversity loss and institutional fragility — there is a growing need for academic programmes capable of training a new generation of critical thinkers and committed professionals. This initiative addresses this need by combining theoretical foundations, methodological experimentation and participatory learning in an international and interdisciplinary context.
The project is based on the principles of ecological economics, with the aim of rethinking the foundations of economic reasoning and exploring viable alternatives for a just transition. It does so by placing students at the intersection between knowledge production and policy engagement, offering an experience that is both intellectually rigorous and socially relevant. From the outset, the programme encourages participants to move beyond disciplinary boundaries, fostering a culture of cooperation across fields, institutions and geographical areas. The integration of Master’s and PhD students in shared activities promotes mutual learning and strengthens academic collaboration at an early stage of their careers.
